Viareggio is busy in both winter and summer and is famous for its "Liberty" style architecture. The town boasts beautiful pinewoods, a tourist harbour and many other additional facilities. It is home to elegant and exclusive designer boutiques. The beach is well maintained and is one of the best on the coastline; you can stroll along the promenade to Lido di Camaiore, which is 3km away.

Activities:

There is much to do in and around the resorts on the Tuscany coast, the outdoor markets are a great source for purchases from souvenirs to priceless works of art. Local markets are held regularly and are well worth a visit. If you are an explorer then you can take a rain and visit many of the surrounding areas: Florence, Lucca and Carrara can be easily reached within an hour. The beaches cater for the active and have sports activities available. A visit to the spa town of Montecatini comes well recommended, where you can enjoy alternate health treatments, such as a mud bath or hydro massage.

Transport:

Car hire is highly recommended for exploring Inland Tuscany and its surrounding areas. There is a very reliable and frequent rail system in Viareggio for travelling to major towns/cities which is relatively inexpensive.
